Squeeze 2 more miles per gallon out of your car by following these simple recommendations!
By paying attention to a few simple sensible rules you can get better mileage. That is like getting 2 or more free gallons of gas with every tank! Here's how to do it.
1. Put on your seat belt, sunglasses and anything else that you would normally do BEFORE you start your engine.
2. Try to turn off your motor when you are in lines at the bank, fast food restaurant or wherever, roll down the windows and suck it up! Cooler weather is coming soon anyway. Also turn off the air conditioning and run just the fan whenever it is cooler. This is especially important with 4 cylinder engines!
3. Stick to the speed limit !!!!! Use the cruise control to keep you there and run the motor at a constant speed. Slower speed = better gas mileage.
4. This is a biggie! COAST as much as possible! Anticipate stop lights changing and start coasting before you have to apply the brakes. If you do have to brake, try to keep the car rolling so you don't have to pull away from a dead stop. LOOK far ahead and pay attention to what is going on with traffic so you can avoid stopping and starting as much as possible. Remember, the less you have to use your brakes, the better your mileage!
5. Use the accelerator pedal like your foot was on an egg! Don't be in a hurry to get up to the speed limit just to have to slow down again.
